TimeBank

TimeBank seeks volunteers to “deliver mentoring projects to tackle complex social problems” – the scope of these projects is broad, covering anything from resettlement support for former military personnel, to language assistance for long-term international residents, or advice for unemployed groups. Each project tends to be focused to a particular location so you can use a search functionality to find available opportunities near you.

Because TimeBank recruit volunteers to help with specific social issues, there’s more formality than some of the other volunteering sites (such as Do-it which effectively lists any kind of volunteering job on behalf of organisations). You’ll likely need to complete a simple application form, mostly covering personal details, with some detail about why you’re interested in the role and relevant experience you can offer.

Lots of the projects are over-subscribed so check back regularly as they sometimes re-open applications for new mentors.
